-
On October 21, 2024, KDI and the Brookings Institution held an event in Washington, DC to commemorate the release of their third joint research report. The event introduced the report titled "New Global Dynamics: Managing Economic Change in a Transforming World," which was the result of collaborative research between KDI and Brookings.
The event featured opening remarks by KDI President Donchul Cho and Brookings President Cecilia Elena Rouse, followed by a panel discussion with experts, including Richard Baldwin, Professor at IMD, and Anabel González, Vice President of the IDB.
The report, co-edited by KDI’s Dr. Daehee Jeong and Brookings' Dr. Zia Qureshi, offers an in-depth analysis of global economic changes, industrial policy, trade, and financial patterns. It highlights how geopolitical crises, technological advancements, and climate change are reshaping global economic dynamics and underscores the importance of international cooperation in addressing these challenges.Notably, the report argues that globalization is not retreating but is being restructured around economic powerhouses and key regions, as economic interconnections are being reorganized. Furthermore, it stresses the need for new policy and regulatory frameworks to adapt to the changes brought by the digital revolution and climate change, which are transforming production, trade, and investment practices.
In his opening remarks, KDI President Dongchul Cho emphasized that "the importance of a rules-based multilateral order is more critical than ever" and expressed hope that the report would "play a significant role in fostering a more inclusive, sustainable, and stable global economy through the collaboration of policymakers, scholars, and the global community."
The KDI-Brookings joint research report is available for purchase from November 1st:
