The conference consisted of three major sessions which
focused on specific issues relating to the economic, political and
security aspects of U.S.-Korea relationship. Experts in each of
these areas from both countries presented papers, four of which
are included here, identifying major problems and prospects and
laying the ground work for the ensuing discussion. The
discussion, which was unusually frank and insightful, provided a
broad look at Korean and American perspectives on such issues
as trade, protectionism, cultural change, and the strategic balance
of power in the Asia-Pacific region. In this publication, we have
tried to outline clearly the major issues which were raised and
to present a balanced summary of the outcome of the discussion.
