Today, Korea faces a range of structural challenges. Long-term growth is slowing, polarization is deepening across society, competition over technology is intensifying, the global trade environment is shifting rapidly, and artificial intelligence is becoming more widely adopted. These changes are unfolding at the same time and are placing growing pressure on the sustainability of the Korean economy.

Short-term responses alone will not be enough. Korea now needs a shift in policy toward Genuine Growth―growth that can reverse the decline in the country’s long-term growth rate and put the economy on a more durable path.

KDI will continue to ground its policy research in scientific analysis. We will work to understand the forces shaping the Korean economy, identify the policy responses they call for, and help Korea prepare for an uncertain future. As a policy think tank trusted by the public, KDI will continue to carry out its role and responsibilities with purpose and consistency.
